The Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida’s annual Jacksonville Creepy Crawl 5K and Vampire Mile is even a scarier proposition for runners and walkers this year. On Saturday October 20, 2018, the event will begin at 5 p.m., finishing up just as the skies begin to turn dark over the spooky Nocatee community, located at 245 Nocatee Center Way in Ponte Vedra.
Runners and walkers are invited to register now for this hair-raising 5K and mile walk and help raise money for the HFGF bleeding disorders community. Costumes are encouraged.
There are many levels of involvement in the annual Jacksonville Creepy Crawl and Vampire Mile for all ages. Participants may register teams and recruit members for the 5K. If a team raises $250 or more, members receive an event t-shirt (limit ten per team, one per person). If a team raises $2,000 or more, they earn their own tent for the evening. Individuals can also register for the 5K. There is a fee to participate in the 5K, however, there is no registration fee to walk. Anyone who raises $25 receives an event t-shirt.
“There is no better feeling than to be able to give back to the bleeding disorders community,” says Edgar Martinez, a member of HFGF for more 20 years and chairperson for the Jacksonville Creepy Crawl 5K and Vampire Mile. “HFGF has provided me and my family with the available resources over the years to help us overcome multiple challenges. I look forward to seeing everyone in October.”
Ninety-one percent of fundraising dollars from this event will go toward supporting programs for Florida’s bleeding disorders community including the medically supervised summer Camp Spirit, family support weekends, scholarships, advocacy efforts, health educational programs and financial emergency assistance.
Awards will be presented for top team and individual and team fundraisers, best Halloween costumes, and top male and female runners in various age groups. Each child with a bleeding disorder will receive a trophy. The 5K will be officially timed for runners.
There will also be free food and candy at the Creepy Crawl as well as ghoulish games for all. Everyone in attendance is urged to stick around for the Howling Halloween Party after the race is over.
